SCHUNK is consolidating its activities in humanoid robotics into a new tech spin-off: SCHUNK Humanoid Robotics GmbH. The goal of the spin-off is to develop modular, anthropomorphic robotic hands for industrial applications. The aim is to make humanoid systems more widely available and economically viable in the future. This work builds on SCHUNK’s many years of experience in flexible gripping technology, as well as an established network spanning industry, startups, and research.
The focus is on a new generation of modular 5‑finger gripping hands with an integrated wrist and forearm. They are designed as scalable modules for industrial use. “There is enormous market potential in humanoid robotics. With this spin-off, we are creating space for an agile, independent, startup-style company with a strong technological foundation and close ties to the market,” says Timo Gessmann, CTO of SCHUNK.

Bosch is an important partner for development geared toward industrial applications. Through a development partnership, Robert Bosch Robotics and SCHUNK are combining their expertise to develop an industrial-grade robotic hand that can be flexibly integrated into a range of humanoid robot systems.
As a global technology company, Bosch brings not only extensive technological expertise but also broad industry knowledge to the table. This will allow future production and logistics requirements to be incorporated into the development process at an early stage. Strong partnerships are crucial in this regard for bringing humanoid robotics from the development stage into robust industrial applications.
