Timo Gess\u00admann:<\/strong> We are classic mechan\u00adical engi\u00adneers. But the topic of digi\u00adtal\u00adiza\u00adtion has driven us since the 1980s and we see it as a great oppor\u00adtu\u00adnity, both for our customers and for ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the one hand, our smart prod\u00aducts and services increase the produc\u00adtivity of our customers, and on the other hand, we increase our effi\u00adciency and opti\u00admize our quality through digi\u00adtal\u00adiza\u00adtion. Digi\u00adtal\u00adiza\u00adtion secures our global compet\u00adi\u00adtive\u00adness and future viability \u2013 and also those of our customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which SCHUNK prod\u00aducts are involved?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The iTENDO2<\/sup> tool\u00adholder, for example, used to be a purely mechan\u00adical compo\u00adnent. Now it has sensors that make it possible for the first time to obtain in-depth trans\u00adparency from the manu\u00adfac\u00adturing process. The sensors measure, for example, high frequency vibra\u00adtions or accel\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtions in the manu\u00adfac\u00adturing process, and the intel\u00adli\u00adgent tool\u00adholder is able to provide the user with process feed\u00adback up to and including auto\u00admatic opti\u00admiza\u00adtion of the manu\u00adfac\u00adturing para\u00adme\u00adters. This enables customers to increase their produc\u00adtivity in manu\u00adfac\u00adturing and enhance process reli\u00ada\u00adbility. This is a prereq\u00adui\u00adsite for a higher degree of automa\u00adtion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An analogy might be a car that uses sensors to measure factors such as speed, distances, posi\u00adtion, etc. when driving and navi\u00adgating, and displays this infor\u00adma\u00adtion live on digital navi\u00adga\u00adtion maps. This detailed digital image makes it possible to iden\u00adtify and avoid traffic jams, so drivers can plan ahead and reach their desti\u00adna\u00adtion faster. This infor\u00adma\u00adtion from the phys\u00adical and digital worlds is also essen\u00adtial for the gradual imple\u00admen\u00adta\u00adtion of autonomous driving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What other advan\u00adtages does the eval\u00adu\u00ada\u00adtion of this sensor data have?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

A smart product supple\u00admented by digital services such as the iTENDO2<\/sup> can be used to predic\u00adtively detect tool wear in auto\u00admated manu\u00adfac\u00adturing using the sensors. Timely tool changes help avoid rejects and increase produc\u00adtivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another example are our smart gripper appli\u00adca\u00adtions, which use a camera system and specially devel\u00adoped AI soft\u00adware to detect which work\u00adpieces are located where, and then use this infor\u00adma\u00adtion to auto\u00admat\u00adi\u00adcally imple\u00adment the appro\u00adpriate gripper poses for handling the work\u00adpieces. As a result, customers no longer have to manu\u00adally program all work\u00adpieces and grip\u00adping move\u00adments in advance. This means that automa\u00adtion solu\u00adtions can be imple\u00admented quickly and easily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To what extent have the require\u00adments for prod\u00aducts changed due to digi\u00adtal\u00adiza\u00adtion?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Digi\u00adtal\u00adiza\u00adtion adds new digital features and services to the func\u00adtions of existing mechan\u00adical prod\u00aducts. With our smart prod\u00aducts and services, we enable our customers to further opti\u00admize existing appli\u00adca\u00adtions and processes on the one hand, and to auto\u00admate completely new process steps on the other. As a result, we are signif\u00adi\u00adcantly expanding the scope of our prod\u00aducts and services to enable automa\u00adtion in a wide range of appli\u00adca\u00adtions and indus\u00adtries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What digital services does SCHUNK offer?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

With a free online config\u00adu\u00adrator, we offer customers a tool to design grip\u00adpers, gripper fingers or chuck jaws in real time and have a CAD model created directly. This saves a lot of effort. In addi\u00adtion, our customers online imme\u00addi\u00adately receive the offer price for the config\u00adured product and the delivery time. Thanks to the consis\u00adtent digi\u00adtal\u00adiza\u00adtion of our processes from the online config\u00adu\u00adrator to our smart factory, which auto\u00admat\u00adi\u00adcally manu\u00adfac\u00adtures the corre\u00adsponding product, we are able to deliver in four days, for example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
