Mr. Rombach, why did you switch from the proven SRU-plus swivel module to the SRM unit?<\/h4>\n

In our flex\u00adible cells, we handle very small as well as rela\u00adtively large parts. One single automa\u00adtion solu\u00adtion needs to be able to cover this perfor\u00admance spec\u00adtrum on one machine. We had designed the SRU-plus ourselves, but it was simply too small and could not provide the neces\u00adsary power. But with the limited instal\u00adla\u00adtion space, we could not install a larger unit.<\/p>\n

Then came the solu\u00adtion that saved the day when SCHUNK recom\u00admended the newly dimen\u00adsioned SRM to us. This swivel module is now avail\u00adable in all step sizes, meaning we have been able to access the size that suits us best.<\/p>\n

Despite the rela\u00adtively small instal\u00adla\u00adtion space, the SRM provides higher maximum moments and better damping, and runs with absolute stability.<\/p>\n

The SRM has come into use throughout our company ever since then, because it enables a down\u00adward leap in size with greater power density at the same time. Black Forest Smart Automa\u00adtion \u2013 BFSA \u2013 is an automa\u00adtion specialist based in L\u00f6ffingen, Germany. The core of the solu\u00adtions is the \u201csmart cell\u201d, which can be equipped in a customer-specific and modular way depending on the appli\u00adca\u00adtion. In compact Euro pallet size, it can be inte\u00adgrated into existing processes and expanded as required.<\/p>\n

This results in flex\u00adible and modular cells for palletizing, stacking, cleaning, labeling, debur\u00adring or handling in different indus\u00adtries.<\/p>\n

The swivel unit SRM 25 offers BFSA maximum flex\u00adi\u00adbility.<\/h4>\n

BFSA has inte\u00adgrated the SRM 25 into a customized automa\u00adtion cell and supple\u00admented it with a variety of SCHUNK grip\u00adpers. In this cell, pre-turned parts are fed to a knurling machine. The SRM swivel unit then performs a crucial func\u00adtion in the cell: when the knurled compo\u00adnent is removed from the machine, it is pointing down\u00adward; for place\u00adment on the conveyor belt, the swivel unit rotates it upwards by 180 degrees.<\/p>\n

After galva\u00adniza\u00adtion, finished turned parts are picked up by a PGN-plus\u2011P parallel gripper on an SRM 16 swivel module, lifted out with a linear slide, guided past a sensor for pres\u00adence control and rotated by 180\u00b0.<\/p><\/div>\n

Due to the tight instal\u00adla\u00adtion space at this pick-and-place station, the focus of BFSA for the cell design was on perfor\u00admance and compact\u00adness. Since SCHUNK has been offering the SRM pneu\u00admatic swivel module in all sizes as of this year, BFSA can use it instead of the SRU-plus module it orig\u00adi\u00adnally used.<\/p>\n

The greater torque of the SRM module and the high energy absorp\u00adtion of the shock absorbers mean that the compo\u00adnents are set down precisely and gently. \u201cWe get higher perfor\u00admance within the same instal\u00adla\u00adtion space, and we can easily handle swiveling the eccen\u00adtric load beyond the twelve o\u2019clock point,\u201d confirms Rudolf Martin, Design and Manu\u00adfac\u00adturing Manager at BFSA.<\/p>\n

BFSA also relies on SRM modules in a labeling cell. Here, turned parts are guided by SCHUNK SRM 16 swivel modules in perfect inter\u00adac\u00adtion with the PGN-plus\u2011P parallel grip\u00adpers and the PZN-plus three-jaw gripper precisely through the labeling process and on to the next machining step.<\/span><\/p>\n
